Feeding chicks — the verified frame

  • Chicks are raised on the valley’s hunted food — fish and rabbits are the confirmed prey.
  • Feeding chicks is a confirmed Plumes use: the currency bridges gaps when hunting is not possible.
  • Exact feeding UI, hunger meters and food values are not published.

Why Feeding Is the Whole Endgame

Everything in Broodwing builds toward the nest: flying to hunt better, Best Nest Locations, growing into an adult bird — all of it exists so a brood can be fed. Feeding is where preparation pays off, and it is the daily rhythm of the Family Roleplay.

What Chicks Eat

The confirmed answer: hunted food from the valley — the same fish and rabbits parents eat, carried back to the nest. The hunting craft itself is covered in the Hunting: Fish and Bunnies (bunny specifics: How to Hunt Bunnies).

Two things are not documented and worth ignoring until verified: exact food values per prey type, and whether chicks have a visible hunger meter. Neither changes the routine — hunt, return, feed, repeat.

The Feeding Run

  1. Check the broodSwing past the nest first — a fed brood buys you a relaxed hunt, a hungry one sets the pace.
  2. Hunt close to homeWork the water or grassland nearest the nest; long flights with food are wasted minutes.
  3. Catch and carrySecure the catch and point the return flight straight at the nest.
  4. DeliverFeed the chicks at the nest, then assess: another run, a handoff, or a break.
  5. Loop or hand offKeep the loop going solo, or rotate with a co-parent so nobody burns out (see Family Roleplay).

Using Plumes on Feeding

Feeding chicks is one of the three confirmed Plumes uses (with growth acceleration and nest building). When to spend rather than hunt:

  • No time for a run — real life interrupts; Plumes keep the brood fed.
  • Prey is uncooperative — a bad hunting stretch does not have to mean a hungry nest.
  • Peak growth moments — pushing a chick over a growth hump is what the currency is for.

The free supply comes from codes — 2,500 Plumes across the three active ones (Codes). Spending-priority strategy: Ultimate Guide.

Feeding With a Family

One parent fishes while the other stalks rabbits, and the nest never waits: splitting the two prey types between co-parents is the classic Broodwing arrangement. Grown chicks eventually join the runs themselves, which is where the Family Roleplay deepens — teaching, provisioning and watching the next generation take wing.

Troubleshooting

Chicks seem unfed

Confirm you are delivering at the nest and check whether a feeding interaction is needed — exact UI is undocumented, so test calmly.

No prey near the nest

That is a placement problem — the scouting method in Best Nest Locations prevents it next time.

Cannot hunt right now

Spend Plumes — feeding chicks is their exact purpose.

Doing it all solo

Recruit a co-parent; the game is balanced around family play (see Join a Family).

Feeding Chicks in Broodwing — FAQ

How do I feed chicks in Broodwing?

Hunt fish or rabbits, carry the catch back to the nest, and feed the brood there. Repeat as the daily routine — ideally in shifts with family.

What do chicks eat?

Hunted valley food — fish and rabbits. Exact food values are not published.

Can Plumes feed chicks?

Yes — feeding chicks is a confirmed Plumes use, alongside growth acceleration and nest building. Spend them when hunting is not an option.

Do chicks have a hunger bar?

Not documented. Feed regularly and treat any specific hunger mechanics you read as unverified.
